As a Costal State, there are some truly amazing courses here, but it doesn't stop at the coast. There are plains, mountains, and even some desert.
Truly an incredible state for Golf.
In fact, they boast 8 courses in Golf Magazines top 100.
GOLF Magazine National: #3 Pacific Dunes, #7 Brandon Trails, #9 Brandon Dunes, #13 Old Macdonald, #24 Sheep Ranch.
Golf Digest National: #2 Pacific Dunes, #8 Brandon Dunes, #11 Brandon Trails, #13 Old Macdonald, #16 Sheep Ranch.
It is always a challenge to rank the best course out of those at the Brandon complex, which consists of FIVE 18 holes courses. The top two are Pacific Dunes and Brandon Dunes, and they vie back and forth for the #1 position. This is truly a golf destination resort and you might want to begin with Pacific Dunes which was the second course constructed at Bandon Dunes Resort and the highest ranked among the resort’s five 18s. To best utilize ocean frontage, Tom Doak came up an unorthodox routing that includes four par 3s on the back nine. Holes seem to emerge from the landscape rather than being superimposed onto it with rolling greens and rumpled fairways framed by rugged sand dunes and marvelously grotesque bunkers. The secret is Doak moved a lot of earth in some places to make it look like he moved very little, but the result is a course with sensual movements, like a tango that steps toward the coast and back again, dipping in and out of different playing arenas from the secluded sand blowouts to the exposed bluffs and all variations in between.

"This is an amazing course right outside of Roseburg, Oregon. They built the course on reclaimed grounds. It has holes on it that are very, very hard and some that are pretty easy. It runs right along the south Umpqua river so there is generally a very nice breeze. The RV Resort also has great amenities, including a pool area. If you don’t have an RV, you can rent the awesome mini homes. If you haven’t had a chance to play this course, you’ve been missing out!"

The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club opened for play in 1997 and immediately distinguished itself as the region’s premiere golf destination, boasting two courses with enough juice in the layouts to challenge some of the game’s greatest players. From 1998 to 2002 The Reserve hosted Peter Jacobsen’s Fred Meyer Challenge, the country’s largest non-sanctioned PGA Tour event. A veritable “who’s who” of golf icons – Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus (both pictured below), Fred Couples, Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia – participated in the Pacific Northwest’s marquee golf event. From 2003 to 2006, The Reserve hosted the PGA Champions Tour major, the JELD-WEN Tradition. The 2003 event “produced a win by one of golf’s all-time greats, an emotional story line, a strong leader board and a dramatic ending” (The Oregonian). Besides tournament winner Tom Watson (pictured below), the field boasted golf greats Jack Nicklaus, Fuzzy Zoeller, Hale Irwin, Tom Kite, Jim Thorpe, and Craig Stadler.
Then again in 2012 they hosted the PGA and Champions Tour All-Stars in the Umpqua Bank Challenge.
